{allcanada} Flames sign Andrew MacDonald to professional tryout contract

The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Andrew MacDonald to a professional tryout contract the team announced Thursday.

MacDonald spent the past six seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers registering 11 goals, and 72 points in 291 games. The Flyers bought out the last year of the 32-year-old's contract to make him a free agent after playing only 47 games last season.

Philadelphia acquired MacDonald back in 2014 from the New York Islanders and signed him to a six-year, $30 million.

Calgary has been looking for defensive depth after Juuso Valimaki sustained a torn ACL in his right knee during a training session.
