Gretzky took over the team's front office as the interim GM following the dismissal of Peter Chiarelli during the 2018-19 campaign. The former scout previously served as an assistant GM for the Oilers before moving up to the top job in an interim capacity, joining the organization in 2016-17 following a long stint with the Boston Bruins.
He was replaced by Ken Holland in early May, when it was announced that the longtime Detroit Red Wings executive would take the reins as the Oilers' GM and president of hockey operations.
The Oilers made a few more front office moves on Monday, promoting CEO and vice chair Bob Nicholson to chairman and announcing the hiring of former Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs executive Tom Anselmi as president, business operations and chief operating officer.
