Argos starter Ricky Ray suffered a neck injury in the team's last game, a Week 2 loss to the Calgary Stampeders, and is expected to miss at least a large portion of the season. Trestman said the veteran QB will need a month of recovery before the team can assess his availability for later in the season.
Franklin has battled McLeod Bethel-Thompson to be the team's primary backup behind Ray with Trestman calling it a figurative coin flip between the two to name a starter for Week 4.
Franklin replaced Ray after his injury in Week 2 and finished the game, throwing for 65 yards on 8/13 passing. The first-year Argos QB also ran for 14 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
