{allcanada} July 10: Two-time Stanley Cup winner Foote is born

THIS DATE IN HISTORY: July 10

1971: Defenseman Adam Foote is born in Toronto. Foote is taken by the Quebec Nordiques with the No. 22 pick in the 1989 NHL Draft, joins them in 1991 and helps the franchise, which relocates to Denver in 1995 and is renamed the Colorado Avalanche, win the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001. He plays with Colorado until 2005-06, joins the Columbus Blue Jackets for two-plus seasons but returns to the Avalanche in 2008 and remains until his retirement after the 2010-11 season. He finishes his NHL career with 308 points (66 goals, 242 assists) in 1,154 games. Foote is the last member of the Nordiques to play in the League.

The Avalanche retire his No. 52 on Nov. 2, 2013. His son Cal Foote, a defenseman, is taken by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the No. 14 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

1948: Goaltender Glenn Resch, who wins the Stanley Cup with the New York Islanders in 1980, is born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Resch plays 571 NHL games with the Islanders, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers before retiring in 1987 and finishes his career 231-224 with 82 ties, with a 3.28 goals-against average and a save percentage of .891.

 

2007: The Rangers re-sign goaltender Henrik Lundqvist after he wins 30 and 37 games in his first two NHL seasons. Lundqvist goes on to win at least 30 games in each of the next nine full NHL seasons and wins the Vezina Trophy in 2012 after going 39-18-5 with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage
