Manxminx's recommendations are what I use too ( though I long ago switched to HDMI rather than optical/coax SPDIF). No issues with DTS, AC3 outputs, which are sent raw (bitstream) to my AVR for decoding.
But the OP reports stuttering. If the DTS stream was corrupted in any way --e.g., volume not at 100%, DSP on -- the output would be white noise, not stuttering. Stuttering, IME , indicates a buffering issue, so maybe play with the buffer setting of f2k.
