Canadian James Paxton is throwing a no-hitter through eight innings against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Seattle Mariners pitcher has struck out five and has allowed three walks on the night as the M's hold a 5-0 lead over the Jays.
Only one Canadian has thrown a no-hitter as Toronto's Dick Fowler accomplished the feat against the St. Louis Browns on September 9, 1945 as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics.
This would be Paxton's first complete game of his career as well.
Paxton, 29, is 1-1 with a 4.19 ERA and a 1.319 WHIP over 38.2 innings pitched this season, his sixth with the Mariners. He also has 60 strikeouts and 16 walks.
The lefty had the best season of his career in 2017, posting a 12-5 record with a 2.98 ERA and 156 strikeouts over 136 innings pitched.
The native of Ladner, British Columbia was actually selected by the Blue Jays in the first round (37th overall) of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Kentucky. After not signing with Toronto, the Mariners selected Paxton in the fourth round of the draft the following year.
The Jays have been no-hit four times in franchise history, most recently by then-Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander on May 7, 2011.
