{allcanada} Weather wreaking havoc ahead of Maple Leafs-Capitals outdoor game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – "Hold on to your hats!" exclaimed Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock, and he wasn't kidding.

Everything not strapped down at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium was in serious danger of blowing away in Friday gusts that reached 100 kilometres per hour.

That included part of a temporary TV studio that stood no chance against these elements. Workers wisely removed the glass from around the boards where the Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals were scheduled to go outdoors for a Stadium Series game on Saturday night.

It was anything but hockey weather, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the players set to participate.

"Yeah, I was just telling [Jake Gardiner], I was actually making fun of his shot saying that if he threw one to the net with this kind of wind it might just stop in mid-air and just fall down," said Leafs centre Nazem Kadri. "It's going to be certainly a challenge, but we're ready for anything."
