Newly acquired starter Jake Odorizzi didn't disappoint in his spring debut for the Minnesota Twins, en route to a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday.

The right-hander was traded to Minnesota (4-3) from the Tampa Bay Rays on Feb. 17 and was stellar on Friday afternoon. In 2.2 innings pitched, Odorizzi struck out three and held the Blue Jays (2-6) hitless.

Left fielder Eddie Rosario opened the scoring for the Twins on a second inning home run off of Blue Jays' left-hander Thomas Pannone. The solo shot was the only run Pannone would give up in two innings of work to go along with three strikeouts.

Minnesota added to their lead in the next frame on an RBI groundout by Joe Mauer.

This was all the offence the Twins needed as the Jays' lineup of mostly prospects couldn't get the bats going for much of the afternoon.

Max Pentecost gave the Jays life in the top of the ninth with an RBI double to cut the Twins' lead to one, but the rally fell short.

The Jays return home to Dunedin to play the Twins again at 1:07 pm on Saturday with Aaron Sanchez squaring off against Phil Hughes.
