Forward Chris Neil, who played 15 seasons with the Ottawa Senators and is their all-time leader in penalty minutes, announced his retirement Thursday.
Neil, 38, had 250 points (112 goals, 138 assists) and 2,522 penalty minutes in 1,026 NHL games, all with the Senators. He had 1,764 more penalty minutes than defenseman Chris Phillips (758), who's second on the Ottawa list. Neil ranks third on Ottawa's all-time games played list, behind Phillips (1,179) and forward Daniel Alfredsson (1,178).
A sixth-round pick (No. 161) by Ottawa in the 1998 NHL Draft, Neil's best season was in 2005-06, when he had 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists).
The Senators said Neil has officially been added to the roster for their Alumni Classic on Friday.
