Calgary Flames co-owner Murray Edwards says the team is not for sale, but there are no plans to meet with the city to solve an ongoing dispute around the building of a new arena.
This comes one day after Edwards said on Thursday at the NHL's board of governors meeting that he isn't optimistic about the team's chances of getting a new arena.
The Flames and the City of Calgary are in the midst of a tense standoff over funding for a new arena that came to a head very publicly in September and October in the leadup to a municipal election. The Flames are seeking a new arena with construction costs partially fronted from Calgary public funds. Recently re-elected mayor Naheed Nenshi, however, doesn't want to dip into public funds to build a new home for the Flames without some guarantee of a return on the investment, which has left both sides at an impasse.
