Alexandre Daigle stole the show on a snowy Friday night on the Canada 150 Rink in the nation's capital during the Ottawa Senators split-squad Alumni Classic at Parliament Hill.
The first-overall pick from the 1993 NHL Draft had a four-goal game, something he never did in his 616-game NHL career, and Team Alfie trounced Team Phillips 12-3.
Daniel Alfredsson and Chris Phillips, the two longest-tenured Senators, chose their teams Thursday and served as captains. The game was broadcasted on local Rogers TV and streamed on Facebook.
Chris Neil, one day after officially announcing his retirement from professional hockey, scored a late goal for Team Phillips as he beat former teammate Patrick Lalime in close. Phillips joked afterwards that the final score didn't matter because when you're playing outside the "last goal wins" rule applies.
By all accounts it was a special night and there were smiles all around.
