{allcanada} Stamps, Argos matchups headline CFL Awards on TSN GO

 

The Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts will face off in two categories during Thursday's CFL Awards before meeting in Sunday's 105th Grey Cup

Dave Dickenson of the Stampeders and Marc Trestman of the Argonauts are the two nominees for Coach of the Year, while Argonauts running back James Wilder Jr. and Stampeders receiver Marken Michel are going to head-to-head in the Most Outstanding Rookie category.

In total, four Argonauts and four Stampeders are up for awards on Thursday night.

Toronto quarterback Ricky Ray is nominated for Most Outstanding Player, he is 0-14 in previous nominations and faces tough competition for the award from Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly.

Reilly led the CFL with 5,536 passing yards and tied for the CFL-lead with 30 TDs in leading Edmonton (11-6) to third in the West Division. Ray, 38, threw for 5,205 yards with 28 touchdowns and boasted a 70.7 per cent completion average as Toronto (9-9) finished atop the East Division.

Argonauts centre Sean McEwen is up for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, nominated from the West Division is Winnipeg Blue Bombers tackle Stanley Bryant.

For the Stampeders, linebacker Alex Singleton is nominated for Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Singleton recorded 125 tackles this season, 15 more than co-nominee Kyries Hebert of the Montreal Alouettes.

Calgary's Roy Finch is up for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, he returned three punts for touchdowns this this season and averaged a career-high 26.8 yards per kick return. Ottawa's Diontae Spencer is nominated from the East, though he posted just one punt return for a touchdown on the season.

The only award to have neither a Stampeder or an Argonaut nominated in Most Outstanding Canadian. Blue Bombers running back Andrew Harris and Redblacks wide receiver Brad Sinopoli will face to be named the league's top National player. Harris led the CFL with 1,035 rushing yards this season, while Sinopoli had 1,009 receiving yards on 91 receptions.
