[SurroundSound] Re: Problems with QUAD playback on new Denon 6300H AVR

Don't blame your stereo yet.  What software are you using on your computer?  For example, some quad FLAC's play only stereo using Foobar for me (although it shows 4-channels).  But Jriver plays the same files correctly at 4-channels.  This problem happened when I upgraded to the exaSound DAC with the ASIO driver.  Before, I used an Oppo 105 with HDMI and Foobar played it fine.  With Foobar, some Quad's play perfectly while others are only in stereo.  I don't blame Foobar, I think it's the ASIO drivers.  In your case, it may be the WASAPI.  Try using Jriver or another software and check the results.

My old Yamaha RX-A3000 got fried by a lightning strike, so I had to replace it.  In the process I learned that Yamaha dropped support for HD Radio, which for me is worthwhile, that steered me to buying the Denon 6300H.

I got a few issues with the Denon, but primarily the biggest PITA is it won't playback 4 channel audio from my PC via WASAPI.  It does play monural, stereo, 5 channel and 6 channel audio without issue (and plays QUAD DVD-As), but four channel PC audio plays in stereo. It sounds like the rear channels are being mixed with the front channels.  The AVR shows both four channels in and four channels out, but the rear speakers are definitely silent.

I've been through all the PC and AVR settings that I can think of with out success.  I never had this problems with the Yamaha.

Just curious if anyone has insight or similar experience, or better yet a solution.

John

PS - Let me know if anyone is interested in parting out the Yamaha RX-A3000.
