{allcanada} Hockey Canada announces full coaching staff for men’s national team

Willie Desjardins has been tasked to lead Canada to Olympic gold in 2018 as Hockey Canada named the former Vancouver Canucks bench boss head coach of the 2017-18 national men's team.

Desjardins' assistant coaches will be Dave King, Scott Walker and Craig Woodcroft, while Sean Burke was officially introduced as the team's general manager. Martin Brodeur was also named to the management group.

Hockey Canada also announced an expanded schedule for the 2017-18 international season.

Desjardins posted a record of 109-110-27 in three seasons with the Canucks before being fired in April after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Desjardins previously coached Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2010 world juniors and was an assistant in 2009 when they won gold.

Burke was GM of Canada's Spengler Cup-winning team in 2016 and was part of the management teams for back-to-back world championship golds in 2015 and 2016. The former goaltender also represented Canada many times as a player, including at the Olympics in 1988 and 1992.

"This is an exciting time for Hockey Canada and for our National Men's Team program, and it will be an exciting season for Canadian hockey fans," Hockey Canada president and CEO Tom Renney said in a press release. "The goal is always to field the best possible team in all upcoming competitions, including this February when we hit the world's biggest sporting stage in Pyeonchang. The faces on our Team Canada rosters may be different than in previous years, but the expectations will be the same; with the addition of Sean, Martin, Willie, Dave, Scott, and Craig, we have assembled some of the best hockey minds out there to help us meet those expectations of on-ice success."
