The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned right-handed pitcher Dominic Leon to the AAA Buffalo Bisons and called up right-hander Casey Lawrence.
Lawrence provides the Jays with some depth as a long reliever in the bullpen after the team exhausted much of its pen on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, using five relievers in a 10-8 loss.
Leon had a strong performance in the loss, pitching 2.2 innings, surrendering only one earned run on one hit while striking out three and giving up one walk.
The 29-year-old Lawrence split time between the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in AA and the Bisons in 2016, compiling an 8-12 record with a 4.17 ERA, 108 strikeouts and 37 walks in 162 innings pitched.
He was slated to be the Bisons' Opening Day starter before Saturday's call-up to the Blue Jays.
Right-handed pitcher Bo Schultz was also transferred to the 60-day disabled list after undergoing Tommy John Surgery on Mar. 29.
