The Calgary Flames acquired defenceman Michael Stone from the Arizona Coyotes on Feb. 20 ahead of the trade deadline for a third-round and conditional fifth-round draft pick.

Stone, 26, played in 19 regular season games with the Flames, averaging 18:51 of time on ice and scoring two goals with four assists.

He scored one goal in the playoffs as the Flames were swept in four games by the Anaheim Ducks.

Stone, a pending unrestricted free agent, announced his desire to re-sign with the Flames on Friday.

"It's a great place for me and my family, and I think it's a good situation with the team," Stone told the Calgary Sun. "I've really enjoyed my time here. The guys are awesome, and it's going to be a good team. We have some young players that are going to turn into some stars in this league. It's something that you should want to be a part of."

Stone signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Coyotes. The Flames would send the conditional fifth-rounder to the Coyotes if Stone stayed in Calgary.

According to the Sun, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Deryk Engelland also expressed their interest in re-signing Friday, as did Kris Versteeg.

Versteeg: "If I'm sitting in Switzerland in September, my agent's getting fired"
