The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Brooks Laich on waivers Tuesday. The veteran forward has been toiling away with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL after failing to make the Leafs' roster at the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign.
Laich played 21 games with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16 after being acquired by Toronto in a deal with the Washington Capitals one day prior to the 2016 trade deadline. He has one goal and five assists in 22 games with the Marlies this season.
"You don't win a Stanley Cup playing in the American League. If the Leafs don't have a plan for me with them then I would like to pursue a Stanley Cup somewhere else," Laich told The Athletic Sunday.
The 33-year-old has a salary cap hit of $4.5 million and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
