The Vancouver Canucks have sent forward Sven Baertschi home early from the team's road trip to undergo further treatment after sustaining a concussion Tuesday night.
Head coach Willie Desjardins said there is no timeline for when the 24-year-old will return to the lineup. The team is on the road until Feb. 18, when they host the Calgary Flames.
Baertschi was concussed on a hit by Nashville Predators forward Cody McLeod in the first period of Tuesday's 4-2 loss.
McLeod was not disciplined for the hit, which Canucks president of hockey operations Trevor Linden admitted he didn't fully agree with.
"I had a long conversation with [the Department of Player Safety]," Linden told TSN Radio 1040 Vancouver on Friday. "I understand where they're coming from on that, the explanation was [McLeod] was following the play up the ice and it was an incidental collision where he braced for it.
"I'm not saying I completely agreed with it, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. I hate to see a player get injured, especially a head injury like that. Sometimes these are unavoidable, but at the end of the day you live with the ruling and you move on."
Baertschi owns 13 goals and 27 points in 50 games this season. He scored a career-high 15 goals and 28 points in 69 games last season.
