Robin Thicke is praising his late father's legacy.
On Tuesday, Alan Thicke passed away at the age of 69, a rep for Robin confirmed to PEOPLE.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Alan suffered a heart attack Tuesday evening while playing hockey with his son, Carter.
Robin, 39, told the newspaper that his father was "the greatest man I ever met" and said of his passing: "the good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure."
Although his death was unexpected, the musician told the Times that he recently spent time with his father, during which he shared his great love and respect for the Growing Pains actor.
"I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him," Robin said about seeing his father just days prior to his death.
A year-and-a-half before his death, Alan shared a photo of himself alongside Carter on the ice hockey rink.

"Like Father, like son. The Thicke apple doesn't fall far from the tree. #CanadianAndProud #Hockey #TBT," he captioned the Twitter photo of the father-son duo donning hockey uniforms.
Just two days before his death, Alan's wife Tanya Thicke shared a photo on Instagram of herself looking adoringly at her husband. "I've got the cutest designated driver EVER!!!" she captioned the photo.
The veteran actor is survived by his wife, Tanya, and his three sons: Robin, Carter and Brennan.
