Andrew Hammond has cleared waivers and is now eligible to be sent to Binghamton.
Hammond was asked by the team to accept a conditioning stint to the AHL, but the goaltender politely refused, preferring to practise with Ottawa.
The Senators chose to waive the player and risk losing him to another team.
The 29-year-old has started just two games this season, going 0-1-0 with a .450 goals-against average and a .793 save percentage.
The Senators have also placed forward Matt Puempel on waivers.
Puempel was a first-round pick of the team in 2011 (24th overall) and has no points in 13 games with Ottawa this season.
The 23-year-old had 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) in 34 games with Binghamton in 2015-16.
