CRANBROOK, B.C. — Winnipeg's Mike McEwen improved to 2-0 with an afternoon victory over Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton at the Grand Slam of Curling Tour Challenge on Thursday.
McEwen scored three in the first end, added two in the fourth and a single in the seventh en route to a 6-3 win over Bottcher.
In other Draw 7 action, Brad Jacobs (1-1) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., earned his first win of the tournament, beating Scotland's David Murdoch 8-5, and Charley Thomas of Edmonton topped Toronto's John Epping 5-4.
Scotland's Kyle Smith downed Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg 6-1 in the lone morning match.
On the women's side, Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg stayed undefeated through two games with a 5-4 win over Alina Paetz of Switzerland. Ottawa's Rachel Homan is also 2-0 after beating Edmonton's Kelsey Rocque 7-1.
