CRANBROOK, B.C. — Saskatoon's Steve Laycock defeated Sweden's Niklas Edin 9-6 on Wednesday at the Grand Slam of Curling Tour Challenge.

Laycock scored three in the final end for the victory at Western Financial Place.

In other early Tier One games, Norway's Thomas Ulsrud doubled Scotland's David Murdoch 8-4, Tracy Fleury of Sudbury, Ont., beat Kerri Einarson of Winnipeg 7-3 and Michelle Englot of Winnipeg outscored Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson 8-7.

Three more draws were scheduled for later Wednesday. Round-robin play continues through Friday night and the finals are scheduled for Sunday.

The Tour Challenge is the second of seven events in the Grand Slam series.
