The Winnipeg Jets will be without Tobias Enstrom for at least their next game as the defenceman had to return home to Sweden for a personal matter, the team announced Thursday.
"He had to get home to Sweden for a family situation that's come up briefly with the full and complete support of the Winnipeg Jets organization," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "We're hopeful that he comes back and it's a positive result, and we get him back real soon. But I don't know when he's going to be able to return."
It is not clear what the situation is about.
"Toby is a big part of this defence," said Ben Chiarot. "He's a leader on the team, he's a big minute guy for us on the back end. It's a big hole, but everyone will pick up the slack and try to pick those minutes up."
The 32-year-old Enstrom has played more than 20 minutes in all but one game so far this season and has one goal and seven points in 22 games.
He has been a member of the Thrashers/Jets organization since being drafted in the eighth round, 239th overall, of the 2003 NHL draft.
