COYOTES (7-10-2) at OILERS (12-8-2)

Coyotes team scope

The Arizona Coyotes have not lost to the Edmonton Oilers in regulation in nearly six years, dating to Jan. 25, 2011. The Coyotes have earned at least a point in their past 24 games against the Oilers (20-0-4). Arizona defeated Edmonton 3-2 in a shootout Friday, the first game of a home-and-home series, after spotting the Oilers an early two-goal lead. "That's obviously something that is big for us," captain Shane Doan said after the win. "Obviously, they have a great team this year and they're at the top of the standings in our division, so it's a big two points." Doan ended a 17-game goal drought when he scored the tying goal in the third period. Doan had not scored since Arizona's first game of the season, a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. He needs two goals to reach 400 in his career and is one assist away from breaking the franchise record of 553. "It had been a long time, I have no idea what game this is or how long it's been, but I knew it was a long time," Doan said. "As a team the last two games have been better, we have to find a way to be more consistent for a full 60 minutes. I think in the first half we were good, we just have to make sure we're better in the second half of the game." Left wing Max Domi leads the Coyotes in scoring with three goals and 14 points in 19 games. Domi scored the Coyotes' first goal on Friday.

Oilers team scope

The loss at Arizona ended a three-game win streak for the Oilers. The last time Edmonton defeated Arizona in regulation, goaltender Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves in a 4-3 win. No one remains from that team. "They play us hard, I don't know if it's kind of both teams, or they play us harder than they play some teams," center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said following practice Saturday. "We don't have much success against them, but I thought we played them better last night than we played them in the past. We should have gotten the two points. We still got the point [for the shootout loss] but [Sunday] we have to make sure we go out and find a way to get that extra one." Edmonton had a similar streak against the Vancouver Canucks from 1985-88, earning at least a point in 24 consecutive games. "We have to find a way to get that monkey off our back and play a good, solid game," coach Todd McLellan said. "They do not beat themselves. They make you err and take advantage of your mistakes, and I thought they did that again [Friday] night." The Oilers came close to ending the streak Friday when Connor McDavid scored just after overtime expired. McDavid scored the first goal of the game to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead and leads the NHL in scoring with 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 22 games.
