Senators team scope
Ottawa Senators coach Guy Boucher changed all four lines for the opener of a three-game road trip through Western Canada. Ottawa is 3-1-0 at home this season but lost its only other road game so far, 5-1 to the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 17. "It's just because when you are on the road you don't have last change and when we were at home I was able to match the lines I wanted," Boucher said. "So we are trying to get drive, reliability and some playmaking on every line." Coming off a 4-1 home loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, Boucher moved Tom Pyatt up to the top line with Mike Hoffman and Kyle Turris in place of Mark Stone, and promoted Ryan Dzingel from the fourth line to the second to play with Derick Brassard and Bobby Ryan. "Over the summer I prepared not to just make the team; I prepared to make a difference," said Dzingel, who has two goals and two assists in five games. "Anytime you go up in the lineup you get excited." Stone and Zack Smith moved down to a third line centered by Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Matt Puempel came out of the press box to replace Phil Varone on the fourth line. "I know when things don't go well for a team certain guys have to come out and change things up," said Puempel, who hasn't played since the loss in Detroit.
Canucks team scope
The Vancouver Canucks will have to bounce back from their first regulation loss of the season without top-pair defenseman Christopher Tanev, who is day to day with a lower-body injury. Tanev, who finished a 4-2 loss against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, will be replaced by 5-foot-10 rookie Troy Stetcher, a 22-year-old signed as an undrafted college free agent during the summer. Stetcher was called up from Utica of the American Hockey League even though the Canucks already had two spare defensemen. He will take Tanev's spot with Alexander Edler on the top pairing. "You always have to have guys that match up," coach Willie Desjardins said. "He played with Edler [in preseason]." Stetcher, who grew up nearby cheering for the Canucks, hopes being reunited with Edler will help settle his nerves in his first NHL game. "Pretty nervous right now to be honest and going to be excited when it comes," said Stetcher, who had one goal and two assists in four preseason games. "First NHL game, as a little kid grew up wanting to play for the Canucks and now the opportunity is here so want to make the most of it." Vancouver also called up forward Jayson Megna from Utica after Derek Dorsett was hurt Sunday and Alexandre Burrows was injured during a 4-3 shootout loss against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Status report
Forward Phil Varone cleared waivers and was sent to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. He played three games for Ottawa this season. … Desjardins said Burrows and Dorsett, who were placed on injured reserve, are each seven to 10 days away from returning, and praised Megna's speed and versatility as the reasons he was called up from Utica. Megna has six goals and 12 points in 54 NHL games with the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins but will be making his Canucks debut after signing as a free agent on July 1. "Your first call-up or two you are a little nervous out there and trying to get your bearings, but this is my fifth year pro so obviously you still get a little bit of nerves but definitely a little more settled now," Megna said.

Henrik Sedin had two goals and an assist in weekend road losses to the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks and leads the Canucks with three goals and five points in six games. … Karlsson was held without a point for the first time this season in the loss to Tampa Bay but still leads the Senators in points with two goals and five assists in five games.
