Canucks team scope
The Canucks will try for their fifth straight win on Saturday, which would make them a franchise-best 5-0-0 to open the season. Vancouver has allowed six goals in four games with goaltender Jacob Markstrom seeing most of the work. His 1.65 goals-against average in three games was third in the NHL entering Saturday.
Canucks coach Willie Desjardins did some minor shuffling of the lines at the morning skate Saturday in an attempt to "get guys going." Right wing Jake Virtanen will play in his third game of the season in the building where he played his first NHL game. Desjardins said Virtanen practiced hard and deserved a chance to play. Virtanen skated with Loui Eriksson and Bo Horvat on the third line. "I played my first NHL game here, so it's exciting to get back in," Virtanen said. "We have a good lineup and I have to prove I belong."
Kings team scope
The Kings lost another goaltender Saturday when Jeff Zatkoff injured his groin at the morning skate. Zatkoff was helped off the ice and into the dressing room at the practice facility in El Segundo. The Kings said he is questionable with a groin strain. Peter Budaj will start in place of Zatkoff. The Kings lost goalie Jonathan Quick to a groin injury in the season opener at the San Jose Sharks and will be without him for three months.
Budaj, who began the season with Ontario of the American Hockey League, made his first start Thursday at the Dallas Stars, allowing three goals in a 4-3 overtime win. "I thought he made the necessary saves," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "I think that now, the challenge for someone like Peter who's trying to reestablish himself is to do it back-to-back."
