{allcanada} PIT BOX: Ranger Looks For GP3R Advantage

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• The NASCAR Pinty's Series returns to the road course this weekend, and Andrew Ranger will look to extend his championship points lead on familiar ground. The Roxton Pond, Quebec, driver has four wins and nine top fives in nine starts at Quebec's Grand Prix Trois Rivieres, which hosts the Can-Am Le 50 Tours Sunday. He nearly got win No. 5 last year but was knocked out of the way on the final turn of the final lap by Kevin Lacroix. Ranger holds a one-point lead over 16-year-old Cayden Lapcevich. The Jostens Rookie of the Year candidate is coming off his first career win at Saskatoon. Lapcevich hasn't finished worse than third in four oval starts, while he did finish third on the road course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park to open the season. He finished 15th at GP3R last year. Despite missing the season opener to run the Indy 500, Alex Tagliani has moved up to third in points, 26 behind Ranger.

• Doug Coby appeared well on his way to a third win of the season at Connecticut's Stafford Motor Speedway Friday, when a fuel pump issue sidelined him in the final 10 laps. It also opened the door to several championship contenders as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour begins the second half of the season Wednesday at another historic Connecticut oval, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Justin Bonsignore, on the strength of a tour-high six top fives in nine races, moved to second - 20 points back of Coby. Timmy Solomito, who opened the season with a win at Thompson, is four points behind Bonsignore, while Stafford winner Jimmy Blewett and Donny Lia are still both within striking distance.

• Todd Gilliland's win at Iowa Speedway, his fourth NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory of the season, allowed him to retake the championship lead from Ryan Partridge as the series heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend. The NAPA Auto Parts 150 will be the series' 52nd race at Evergreen Speedway. After finishing 24th at Sonoma, Gilliland has picked up two straight wins to erase Partridge's lead. Partridge finished second to David Mayhew at Evergreen last year. Noah Gragson and defending series champion Chris Eggleston are 24 and 25 points back, respectively, and both scored top fives in last season's visit to Washington.
