TORONTO — Running back Jerome Jerome Messam and kicker Rene Paredes of the Calgary Stampeders and B.C. Lions defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy were named the CFL's players of the week Tuesday.

Messam ran for 109 yards and accumulated 145 yards from scrimmage in the Stampeders' 35-15 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The native of Brampton, Ont., is the CFL's rushing leader this season with 404 yards.

Paredes booted five field goals and finished with 17 points in the win over Saskatchewan. The veteran kicker has made 16 straight field goals and is tied for the CFL lead with 20 field goals made.

Purifoy, playing just his sixth CFL game, had a career-high five tackles and returned a fumble recovery 47 yards for a TD in the Lions' 38-18 win over the Montreal Alouettes. Purifoy, who played collegiately at Florida, has 22 tackles, three special-team tackles, an interception and sack this season with B.C.
