Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber made his first appearance in Montreal on Monday since he was acquired from the Nashville Predators in a trade for defenseman P.K. Subban on June 29.
Weber took part in an off-ice workout at the Canadiens practice facility in Brossard, Quebec before taking team photos and skating in full uniform.
Weber will wear No. 6 for the Canadiens, the same number he wore with the Predators. The jersey also featured an 'A,' indicating Weber will be an alternate captain.
Weber, who turns 31 on Sunday, spent the first 11 seasons of his NHL career in Nashville and was captain of the Predators since the 2010-11 season. He will be introduced to the Montreal media when he participates in the Michel Therrien Golf Invitational at Le Mirage in Terrebonne on Tuesday.
Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher believes Weber, who also will compete for Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 beginning Sept. 17, will easily handle the transition from Nashville to Montreal.
"I don't think Shea Weber will have any problems adjusting [to Montreal]," Gallagher told the Vancouver Province on Saturday. "He's experienced enough. He's been in the League for a long enough time. He's played in big playoff games. He's played in gold-medal finals. I don't think there's any more pressure than putting on the Team Canada jersey for an Olympic gold-medal game. He understands how to deal with that. I think he'll be just fine."
