Warning: If you haven't seen the fourth episode of "Powers" Season 2, this article is going to spoil a pretty major plot twist.
When Agent Lange (Tricia Helfer) first appeared on "Powers," it was clear she shared some pretty serious history with Walker (Sharlto Copley). Now we know just how entwined their two lives are — and we know about her little secret.
It seems Lange isn't only a reformed criminal but a superpowered one at that! While the world knows her as Agent Lange, Walker knows her as Lynx — a human/cat hybrid. And it turns out the relationship between the two is rather intimate.
So what's it like doing a sex scene while portraying a cat? For Helfer, it was a truly unique experience.
A self-proclaimed "crazy cat lady," Helfer took note of how her own cats move to help inform Lynx's body language. She didn't stop there, though.
"I did look up cats mating online because of the sex part of the scene before it becomes a fight," she tells Zap2it with a laugh.
"I'm sitting in my hotel room in Atlanta and I'm Googling 'cats mating' and the sounds that started emanating from my room," she explains. "I think I lasted about five minutes before I was like, 'I've got to shut this off because I think security may be coming up here thinking something is getting killed in this room.'"
Between what little she was able to gather from the internet and her own cat experiences, Helfer was able to put together a pretty believable performance for a cat on the prowl. Plus, playing Lynx came with an added bonus for her. "I have cat paw print tattoos on my ankle," she admits. "This was the first show where I didn't have to cover them up."
Beyond the revelation of Lange's powers as Lynx, the episode also showed just how much power she wields in her day job as an FBI agent. After being double crossed by Walker, she shut down the Powers division. While you may be hoping to dive even deeper into their history, that's going to have to wait.
"Agent Lange's storyline has to do pretty much with surrounding the Retro Girl case," Helfer says. "Once that story is sort of wrapped up, the series moves onto another storyline focusing around Super-Shock [Michael Madsen]."
That will mean the end of the road for Lange on "Powers," at least for this season. Still, with all of the pieces of her puzzle falling into place, Helfer is hopeful that she'll get to tell more of this story.
"After episode 4, Lange is pretty pissed off at Walker," she says. "You can tell there's definitely still affection between these two, they care for each other. But she still feels so double-crossed."
As far as Helfer is concerned, while Lange may be exiting for now, her story is far from over. After Walker alleged that the people she's working for are the true villains, she won't be able to help but wonder if he's onto something.
"We definitely shot it with the anger and betrayal there … but also we did flavor it with a hint of her thinking that possibly they are onto something," she says. "My feeling on it was when they finish up the case and she goes back, now she's questioning her bosses."
Where will her story with Walker be when she takes her leave from Season 2, though? That's something you're going to have to tune in to find out.
