Season series: The Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs have split two games, with the road team winning each. Maple Leafs forward Matt Hunwick scored with 7.5 seconds left in the third period for a 3-2 win Jan. 19 at Wells Fargo Center. Shayne Gostisbehere's overtime goal gave the Flyers a 5-4 win Feb. 20 at Air Canada Centre.
Maple Leafs team scope: Coach Mike Babcock said Wednesday that forward Leo Komarov, who has missed 11 games with a lower-body injury, will be on the road for the final two games, including Saturday at the New Jersey Devils. "Ideally if we can get him in a game we'll get him in a game," Babcock said. Toronto's 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday was its fourth straight (0-4-0). "The effort and the execution of that effort was not good enough," Babcock said. "It's unacceptable. ... You turn pucks over, you don't play well without it, it ends up in your net." With the number of young players in the lineup, Babcock said it made for a teachable moment. "For the young guys going down to play in the Calder Cup [playoffs], it should be a very good reminder to them: You turn the puck over, you can't win," he said.
Flyers team scope: Philadelphia's 3-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday was its second straight in regulation, the first time that's happened since Feb. 7 and 9. The Flyers lost 5-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. "It's a missed opportunity for us," goalie Steve Mason told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "But in saying that, we have to put it behind us quickly because we're back at it in less than 24 hours." Mason is expected to make his 11th straight start, his most since 2008-09, his rookie season with Columbus. This is the second of four games in five days to end the regular season. "We have to have a killer instinct now," Mason said. "We can't let these games get away from us."
