BASEL, Switzerland - Canada has suffered its first defeat at the men's world curling championship, losing 4-3 to Sweden in an extra end.

Kevin Koe's Calgary team scored one in the 10th end to tie the game, but couldn't get the extra-end steal and surrendered a decisive point.

Canada still leads the round-robin table at 8-1.

Defending champion Sweden ended a three-match slump and improved to 5-3, keeping its playoff chances alive.

Earlier in the day, Canada beat South Korea 9-2, clinching the win with three points in the seventh end.
