BASEL, Switzerland - Canada remained unbeaten at the men's world curling championship with a 5-3 win over Scotland in Monday's afternoon draw.
Canada improved to 4-0 after seven draws, tied with defending champion Sweden for top spot.
Kevin Koe's Calgary-based rink closed off the tightly contested match with two points in the ninth end. After struggling to a pair of extra-end wins on Sunday, Koe said his team took a different approach against Scotland.
"We played a little simpler off the start, but we played solid," said Koe. "We didn't throw as many draws, but we made most of them today. It's still a little tricky for draw weight, but we played well, we were always in control. We weren't really chasing much."
Canada opened the scoring with a deuce in the second end, but Scotland tied it in the third. The teams traded points in the next two ends, then three blank ends followed before Koe used the hammer to score the decisive points in the ninth.
It was the 100th meeting between Canada and Scotland at the men's world championship. Canada has now won 12 straight against its old rival and holds an 80-20 advantage in the all-time series.
Canada, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second Brent Laing and lead Ben Hebert, faced Japan later Monday.
