{allcanada} Bouchard named to Canada’s Fed Cup team vs. Slovakia

Eugenie Bouchard has been named to Canada's Fed Cup team for its tie against Slovakia on April 16-17 in the World Group II playoffs.

Bouchard will be joined by fellow Montreal native Francoise Abanda, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, Que.) and Toronto's Sharon Finchman.

"We know the team that we're bringing to Slovakia has what it takes to be among the top 16 countries in the world," Canadian Fed Cup captain Sylvain Bruneau said in a release. "We have worked hard over the past few years to earn our place among the elite nations, and we will do everything we can to win this tie and keep our place in World Group."

Slovakia brought a team consisting of Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, Dominika Cibulkova, Jana Cepelova and Daniela Hantuchova to its last Fed Cup tie against Australia, so Canada is likely to see a similar look.

Canada was without Bouchard for its Fed Cup tie with Belarus (a 3-2 loss) back in February. Abanda and Wozniak were both part of that team, with both women going 1-1 in their singles play.

The 22-year-old Bouchard has a career record of 11-4 in Fed Cup play, strong historical results that could bode well for Canada's chances.
