STARS (39-20-7) at SENATORS (31-28-7)
TV: 5 p.m. ET; FS-SW+, RDS, TSN5, NHL.TV
Season series: The Ottawa Senators defeated the Dallas Stars 7-4 at American Airlines Center on Nov. 24, their first win in Dallas since Dec. 20, 2008. Jean-Gabriel Pageau (two goals) and Mark Stone (one goal) each had three points to lead Ottawa. Jamie Benn had two goals and an assist for Dallas.
Stars team scope: Defenseman John Klingberg is day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained early in a 4-2 win against the New Jersey Devils on Friday. "Nothing conclusive with the tests [done Saturday], which is good," coach Lindy Ruff told the Stars website. "So, we just go day to day with him and see where he is at." Ruff said Klingberg would not travel to Ottawa, where Dallas begins a two-game road trip that concludes Tuesday at the Montreal Canadiens, but could join the Stars if he responds well to treatment. Klingberg's 53 points (10 goals) are third among NHL defensemen and tops on the Stars. Forward Patrick Eaves, who has missed six games because of pneumonia, was to travel to Ottawa after practicing Saturday, but forward Patrick Sharp (lower body) and defenseman Jordie Benn (lower body) were not. The win against New Jersey ended a four-game losing streak (0-3-1). Forward Colton Sceviour has three goals and two assists in the past four games, center Vernon Fiddler has a goal in each of the past three and defenseman Alex Goligoski has four assists during a three-game point streak.
Senators team scope: Zack Smith scored the game-winning goal with 2:15 left in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday in the first of a back-to-back set. The win ended a two-game skid (0-1-1). Ottawa trailed 2-1 and was being outshot 30-19 entering the third period. "We stuck with it. It was obviously big," forward Bobby Ryan told the Ottawa Sun. "Every win is going to be magnified and every loss is going to be the same for us. We found a way in a game where we were flat for part of it." Coach Dave Cameron benched leading goal-scorer Mike Hoffman for the third period. Smith has two goals and two assists during a four-game point streak. With No. 1 goalie Craig Anderson injured, backup Andrew Hammond could start for the second time in as many nights; he made 41 saves against Toronto. Anderson (lower body) likely won't return until Tuesday at the Carolina Hurricanes at the earliest.
