Season series: The Los Angeles Kings have won two of three against the Vancouver Canucks, including a 5-0 victory at Rogers Arena on Dec. 28 in their most recent game. Tyler Toffoli had a hat trick, Anze Kopitar had four assists, and Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for the shutout.
Canucks team scope: Center Henrik Sedin will not play because of an upper-body injury sustained Saturday. He flew back to Vancouver for further evaluation, The Province reported. Vancouver did not practice Sunday after a 4-2 win at the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. "I think they have a good team," coach Willie Desjardins said of the Kings. "I know they're going to come with lots (of energy). I know that's kind of what we're going to have to do; we're going to have to hang around, wait until we get a chance, and hopefully we'll capitalize on it." Defenseman Christopher Tanev sustained an upper-body injury Saturday and is unlikely to play. He did remain with the Canucks, however. Right wing Radim Vrbata (groin) is questionable. He did not play Saturday. Goalie Jacob Markstrom is expected to start.
Kings team scope: It's the third of a five-game homestand for Los Angeles, which lost 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday and fell two points behind the Ducks for first place in the Pacific Division. Right wing Kris Versteeg, who sustained an upper-body injury against Anaheim, practiced Sunday as an extra forward. Versteeg, who missed the second and third period Saturday, is questionable. "Yeah, it was fine," Versteeg told LA Kings Insider. "It was just a couple precautions, so [I'll] just get ready to go when I get ready to go next." Quick is expected to start.
