{allcanada} Panthers win 11th in a row, defeat Senators

OTTAWA -- The Florida Panthers extended their team-record winning streak to 11 games with a 3-2 victory against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday.

Reilly Smith, Vincent Trocheck and Aleksander Barkov scored for the Panthers (25-12-4). Roberto Luongo made 30 saves.

Max McCormick, with his first goal in the NHL, and Milan Michalek, back in the lineup after missing 16 games with a broken finger, scored for the Senators (19-16-6). Craig Anderson made 13 saves.

The Panthers have given up eight goals in their past seven games and 14 during their winning streak, which is the longest in the NHL this season, and the longest since the Boston Bruins won 12 games in a row during the 2013-14 season.

The Panthers tied their record for consecutive road wins with five.

With Florida up 2-0 after goals eight seconds apart in the first period, McCormick scored off a turnover at 5:38 of the second period. With the puck deep in the Florida zone, Panthers defenseman Alex Petrovic took a pass from partner Willie Mitchell in the corner to Luongo's right. Under pressure from Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Petrovic turned over the puck when McCormick, in his 10th NHL game, jumped on his pass in the slot. His shot went off the left post and into the net.

The goal came after the Senators failed to capitalize on a 5-on-3 advantage for 69 seconds earlier in the period.

Barkov scored his 12th goal to make it 3-1 at 7:30 of the third period after Jaromir Jagr's pass to the front of the net bounced off the stick of Senators defenseman Fredrik Claesson to Barkov.

Michalek deflected a shot by Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson at 9:54 to make it 3-2.

The Panthers scored two goals in eight seconds to take a 2-0 lead in the first period. They were the quickest two goals scored against the Senators; the previous record was 11 seconds, by the Winnipeg Jets in 1993.

Smith scored first off the rush at 12:01, skating down the right wing and shooting the puck past Senators defenseman Patrick Wiercioch into the top corner over Anderson's left shoulder.

Trocheck scored his 12th at 12:09 after a turnover by Claesson in the corner to Anderson's left. The puck went into the Senators zone from the faceoff following Smith's goal, and Smith had a strong forecheck on Claesson, forcing the turnover. The puck came out into the slot where Trocheck had room to wind up and deliver a hard shot.
