Season series: The New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens split a home-and-home series in late November, with the visiting team winning each game 3-2. Sven Andrighetto scored the deciding goal in Montreal's shootout win on Nov. 27. John Moore's overtime goal gave New Jersey a win at Bell Centre the next night.

Devils team scope: New Jersey will be without its top scorer, Mike Cammalleri, for a third straight game. Cammalleri is sidelined with an upper-body injury and didn't make the trip to Montreal. "[Cammalleri is] going to be out [Wednesday], and then we'll re-evaluate where he's at with the off day coming up and going into the weekend," coach John Hynes told NJ.com after practice Tuesday. Cammalleri didn't take part in the workout. Neither did defenseman David Schlemko; Hynes said he received a maintenance day and will be available. Goaltender Cory Schneider will start for the fourth consecutive game; he's 2-1-0 and has allowed three goals in his past three games, including a 1-0 home loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

Canadiens team scope: It's the first home game since Dec. 17 for Montreal, which went 2-6-0 on an eight-game road trip that ended with a 4-3 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. "There are some guys who in the second half are really going to have to pick up their game," coach Michel Therrien told the Canadiens website. Goalie Mike Condon could get the start after Ben Scrivens made 27 saves against the Flyers. Captain Max Pacioretty has five points (two goals, three assists) in a four-game point streak after he had two points Dec. 3-22.
