{allcanada} Sidney Crosby to be part of Team Canada initial roster

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby will be among the initial 16 players named to Team Canada's roster for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong said Thursday.

"There is no discussion about Sidney," Armstrong said. "He will be part of the first group of 16 players."

Armstrong, also GM of the St. Louis Blues, did not say when other players would be announced.

Crosby became a member of the Triple Gold Club in the spring when he captained Canada to the 2015 IIHF World Championship gold medal. He already won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009 and gold medals with Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and 2014 Sochi Olympics. Crosby was coached at the Olympics by Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock, who was named Team Canada coach for the World Cup on Thursday.

Crosby also played for Canada at the 2006 World Championship, and the 2004 and 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship.

In 43 games for Canada at the World Juniors, World Championships and Olympics, Crosby has 25 goals and 51 points.

With the Penguins this season Crosby has two goals and six points in 12 games.
