Season series: The Detroit Red Wings won their first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season 4-0 at Joe Louis Arena on Oct. 9. Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard made 22 saves, rookie forward Dylan Larkin had one goal and one assist in his NHL debut and captain Henrik Zetterberg had three assists.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit is managing a number of injuries. Defenseman Kyle Quincey told reporters Thursday he has healed from the concussion he sustained Oct. 23 but he might need surgery on his right ankle to remove bone spurs, which would be a six-week recovery. A couple injured Red Wings are closer to returning. Center Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) is on schedule to play in mid-November, and defenseman Mike Green (shoulder) is questionable after going through his first full practice since he was injured Oct. 23. "I'd rather be [out] one more game than put yourself in a bad situation and be out for seven," Green told MLive.com on Thursday. "Today was a good way to gauge. I'll hopefully be back in a day or two." Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill will name his starting goalie Friday.

Maple Leafs team scope: Center Nazem Kadri said he is looking for more goals. He leads Toronto with 48 shots on goal but has one goal. "I'm not a superstitious type," Kadri said Thursday, according to the Maple Leafs website. "I just keep the train rolling. I know if I keep doing the right things, things are going to bounce my way." Goalie Jonathan Bernier (lower-body injury) was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 1. Antoine Bibeau, recalled from Toronto of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, will handle backup duties. James Reimer is expected to make his third straight start Friday. Defenseman Frank Corrado rejoined the Maple Leafs at practice Thursday after a conditioning stint with Toronto in the AHL.
