Season series: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets split two games last season, with each team winning once at home. Winnipeg defensemen Dustin Byfuglien and Ben Chiarot each had a goal and an assist, and forward Bryan Little had a goal and two assists in a 5-1 win Jan. 3 at MTS Centre. James van Riemsdyk's overtime goal gave Toronto a 4-3 win on Feb. 21 at Air Canada Centre.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg will have Byfuglien in its lineup after he avoided NHL supplemental discipline for a hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher in a 5-1 loss Sunday. The four-game road trip will continue without center Andrew Copp, who has an undisclosed injury, according to the Jets website. Coach Paul Maurice said Copp will miss at least the next two games. "We'll get a better idea [of Copp's status] when we get back to Winnipeg," Maurice said. Maurice has not announced his starting goaltender for Wednesday (Ondrej Pavelec or Michael Hutchinson). Six of the next seven games will be on the road, where the trip continues against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Maple Leafs team scope: Toronto starts a stretch of three games in four nights and may be without center Tyler Bozak, who missed practice Tuesday because of personal reasons, according to the Maple Leafs website. Goaltender James Reimer is expected to start. Coach Mike Babcock also announced that van Riemsdyk, who did not practice Tuesday, will play Wednesday, and goaltender Jonathan Bernier is day-to-day. Goaltender Antoine Bibeau was recalled from Toronto of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. Bibeau, 21, is 5-1-0 with a 2.17 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in six AHL games. Defensemen Scott Harrington (upper body) and Stephane Robidas (lower body) remain out. After hosting the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, Toronto begins a three-game road trip.
