Season series: The Montreal Canadiens have an opportunity to sweep a three-game season series against the New York Islanders on Sunday. Montreal defenseman Jeff Petry and right wing Brendan Gallagher each have two goals and one assist against the Islanders. Petry has his first NHL multi-goal game in the Canadiens' 5-3 win at Barclays Center on Friday. Islanders forward Brock Nelson scored twice Friday.
Islanders team scope: New York practiced on Saturday before traveling to Montreal. On Friday, Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak allowed three goals against his former team on 11 first-period shots. "We have to come out on Sunday and have a lot better first 20 minutes," Islanders forward Kyle Okposo said Friday in a video posted to their website. "I just thought we dug ourselves a hole that, we tried, we just couldn't dig out of." Halak was replaced by Thomas Greiss, who made saves on 15 of the 16 shots he faced over the final two periods. Greiss felt that a key for the Islanders to bounce back in Montreal will be carrying over their play from the third period Friday. "Play three periods like the last period, just get the effort right from the get-go," Greiss said.
Canadiens team scope: Center Torrey Mitchell was placed on injured reserve Saturday because of a lower-body injury he sustained in the third period of Montreal's 3-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday. Forward Sven Andrighetto, who was recalled from St. John's of the American Hockey League, could make his season debut against the Islanders. Carey Price will start a second straight game, and Montreal coach Michel Therrien said he will make the rest of his lineup decisions Sunday. "A guy like Andrighetto, who's playing really well, this is his third year pro, he did well at times with us last year, he's got some experience and he deserved to get called up," Therrien said Saturday.
