FLYERS (4-4-2) at CANUCKS (5-2-4)

TV: SNP, TCN-PH

Season series: The Vancouver Canucks swept two games against the Philadelphia Flyers last season. Ryan Miller made 30 saves in a 4-0 win in Philadelphia on Jan. 15. Henrik Sedin had a goal and an assist, and Daniel Sedin had two assists. Alexandre Burrows scored two third-period goals in a 4-1 win in Vancouver on March 17. Forward Michael Raffl scored for the Flyers.

Flyers team scope: Philadelphia recalled forward Chris Conner from the American Hockey League on Sunday. In eight games, Connor leads Lehigh Valley in goals (four) and is second in points (eight). "He's coming here for a reason," coach Dave Hakstol told the Flyers website. "He is available to play. Whether or not he is in tomorrow, I'm not ready to speculate on that." The Flyers have lost three in a row (0-2-1) and will play the second of their five-game road trip. "It hasn't been a good stretch for us," general manager Ron Hextall said. "I don't think anyone around here is really happy, including our players, so we need to correct it quickly." Sean Couturier, who hasn't played since he sustained a concussion at the Boston Bruins on Oct. 21, did not make the trip. He's listed as day-to-day. "We're hoping [Couturier joins the team] maybe [Monday]," Hextall said. "We'll see. He is getting better slowly."

Canucks team scope: Defenseman Lucas Sbisa didn't practice Sunday, but defenseman Dan Hamhuis, who missed two games with a lower-body injury, forward Chris Higgins (foot fracture) and goalie Jacob Markstrom (hamstring) were on the ice. Higgins and Markstrom have not played this season. Higgins fractured his foot in a preseason game against the San Jose Sharks on Sept. 21, and Markstrom sustained the hamstring injury in practice Oct. 6, one day before the Canucks' season opener. Coach Willie Desjardins didn't disclose why Sbisa missed practice. Forwards Jared McCann and Jake Virtanen, each selected in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft, will remain with Vancouver for the rest of the season. "They bring a youthful enthusiasm that has been contagious so far," general manager Jim Benning told the Canucks website. Vancouver expects a good effort from Philadelphia despite its recent struggles. "They're a real good team," Desjardins said. "They have a real high-end offense. They haven't maybe played quite the way they wanted, I think they've been playing better lately, but they have a new coach, a little bit of a new system, but they will be hungry tomorrow."
