MONTREAL – A veteran Olympian has been named as interim president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, replacing Marcel Aubut who resigned this weekend.
Tricia Smith is a four time Olympic rower, businesswoman, and the C-O-C's vice-president.
Aubut resigned yesterday morning after the organization launched two investigations into allegations of sexual harassment.
Aubut announced on Wednesday that he would step away from his duties after a complaint had been filed against him to the C-O-C.
Since that original complaint, two other women have come forward with their own allegations.
Aubut said in a statement that the complaints are a major distraction that obscures the C-O-C's goals and jeopardizes its smooth operation.
The C-O-C had retained a former chief justice of the Quebec Superior Court to investigate the initial complaint.
On Friday, the organization launched a second investigation to examine any further complaints about Aubut.
Aubut has said he is being accused of intentions he never had.
