Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada - Scott Steckly was fastest in afternoon practice and he proved that was no fluke during qualifying for the Alberta Has Energy 300 as he went out and captured his first Canadian Tires Series presented by Mobil 1 pole award of the season.
The three-time series champion piloted his No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge around the .25-mile oval to a fast time of 12.671 seconds (71.028 mph) and scored his 14th career pole award overall.
Alberta native James Van Domselaar made his first career qualifying attempt a memorable one finishing a close second (12.746 /70.610) and will start on the front row beside Steckly.
Joey McColm (12.784/70.401) was third overall with defending series champion L.P. Dumoulin fourth and D.J. Kennington completing the top five.
Mark Dilley was sixth with defending race winner Andrew Ranger seventh and Marc-Antoine Camirand eighth.
Alex Tagliani will go after his second win of the season from the ninth spot with Matthew Scannell rounding out the top-10 qualifiers.
The Alberta Has Energy 300 will take the green at 8 p.m. MT
