Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada - Scott Steckly is looking to get back into NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 championship lead as the series begins its western swing at Edmonton International Raceway, and he is off to a good start
Steckly set the pace during final 45-minute practice for the Alberta Has Energy 300 in his No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge with a fast lap of 12.674 seconds (71.012 mph) to lead the 20-car field on the banked quarter-mile.
Steckly was able to outdistance Mark Dilley, who followed in second at 12.815 seconds (70.230 mph) while defending series champion L.P. Dumoulin was third (12.861/69.979).
D.J. Kennington was fourth, while defednding race winner Andrew Ranger and points leader Jason Hathaway ran identical laps.
Hathaway holds a one-point lead over rookie Gary Klutt and eight over Steckly. Dumloulin andd Kennington round out the top five, and both are within 12 points of the lead.
Matthew Scannell, Noel Dowler, Marc-Antoine Camirand and Joey McColm completing the top 10. Camirand led the first 30-minute practice with a lap of 13.084 seconds (68.786), which was 12th overall.
Qualifying is slated for 4:30 p.m., and the Alberta Has Energy 300 will take the green at 8 p.m. MT
