[SurroundSound] Sousnd card help requested

Early this year, I built a new PC because my old one was dying.  I chose the 'Diamond XtremeSound PCI-e 7.1 Channels Low Profile 24-Bit Sound Card XS71HD' because it had Toslink input and output as standard, for an affordable price, and specifically mentioned DTS capability in the datasheet.

I installed Win7Pro64 on the quad-core PC, and connected the sound card's Toslink out to a surround receiver with an internal DTS decoder.  The audio control app that installs with the sound card driver is 'Xear CM8828', which is awful compared to my previous PC's Xear control app, which had many more setup options than this one.  But I can't play DTS audio successfully through this new setup!

I can go to the Windows Control Panel 'Sound' utility and test the DTS output, and it plays correctly as DTS through my receiver.  But if I try to play a DTS track through (say) Winamp (volume at 100%, no equ or any other 'enhancements'), the receiver is silent (not even the usual white noise you get when a DTS signal is corrupted!).  The receiver continues to display 'PLII MUSIC', my default mode for stereo inputs, whereas when it plays a DTS track (e.g. during the above-mentioned test) it normally displays 'DTS'.

Stereo tracks play fine through the receiver.

Can anyone suggest what I can try to get DTS tracks to play through my external receiver?

Thanks,
Daniel (Australia)
