It remains to be seen if the Toronto Maple Leafs will make a big splash on the trade market, but it appears they're closing in on a contract extension for a serviceable piece of their bottom six forward unit.
The club is expected to ink Richard Panik to an extension at some point over the weekend.
The Maple Leafs claimed Panik off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning in October. The 24-year-old winger scored 11 goals and totalled 17 points in 76 games in 2014-15.
With the fourth and 24th overall picks at their disposal and rampant trade speculation surrounding stars Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf, the Maple Leafs could be one of the busier teams at this weekend's NHL Draft.
