BOWMANVILLE, Ont. -- It's raining in Indianapolis, but Pier-Luc Ouellette is shining at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Ouellette is making his first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by MPier-Luc Ouellette obil 1 start as a substitute for Alex Tagliani, who is at Indianapolis Motor Speedway hoping to qualify for next weekend's Indianapolis 500. The 27-year-old Montreal driver piloted the No. 18 EpiPen/CGI/CanTorque Chevrolet Saturday to the fastest lap over the two practice sessions for Sunday's season-opening Pinty's presents the Clarington 200.

Ouellette posted a time of 1 minute, 23.614 seconds (105.872 mph) around the 2.459-mile, 10-turn asphalt road course.

Fellow rookie Kevin Lacroix was second fastest at 1:23.8 (105.613).

Jeff Lapcevich, who has three runner-up finishes in the last four series races at CTMP, was third quick at 1:24.016 (105.366). Andrew Ranger and Scott Steckly were fourth and fifth, respectively.

DJ Kennington was sixth fastest overall, followed by Jason Hathaway, Matthew Scannell, rookie Gary Klutt and rookie Marc-Antoine Camirand.

Ranger was fastest in Saturday's first practice session and that time was eighth quick overall.

The ninth season opener for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series opener is the headline for the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. Qualifying for the Pinty's presents the Clarington 200 is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

Sunday's race is scheduled to take the green at 12:30 p.m.
