It was revealed in early April that Season 6 is Nina Dobrev's last season as Elena Gilbert on hit CW drama "The Vampire Diaries" -- and fans everywhere were beside themselves. But in a recent SELF interview, Dobrev says the ending is going to be amazing. "It's important for me that [Elena's farewell] be epic and powerful," says Dobrev. "I feel like I'm a completely different person than I was and I've grown so much. It's been a big part of my life, and I want it to be beautiful. I want it to end well."
Dobrev doesn't characterize her leaving the show as scary, though it is bittersweet. But she's excited for what's next.
"I've loved working on this show. It's been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I've been surrounded by so many people who I consider family," Dobrev says. "I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it's going to be so strange not to be with them."
So what is next for the 26-year-old? She's not sure yet, but first thing's first -- a road trip with her besties. SELF reveals that Dobrev and six friends are going on a cross-country trip from New Orleans, to the Grand Canyon, to Las Vegas, before finally arriving in Los Angeles, which is where Dobrev will live full time now that "TVD" has wrapped in Atlanta.
Dobrev's final "Vampire Diaries" episode, titled "I'm Thinking of You All the While," airs Thursday (May 14) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
